When I decided to turn my mess into a message, I knew my real purpose had finally arrived. Adversity is the driving force behind my book, Rebound Forward.
Between 1992 and 1998, the reality of losing two 4 year old daughters, became a raw true of our lives. But, in the throes of adversity, it was the decisions I made that left a devastating mark on my family, marriage, and self.
As a career men's NCAA college basketball coach, I knew stress well. The years following the end of my career introduced the most painful part of my life. Depression, addiction, pornography, alcohol, and prison were all part of the world that collapsed before me.
It was my decision to run from the death of my daughters that created a hole within myself, one that sought comfort around every corner. It was in the running that a secret life in pornography was chosen.
My book and story are about taking on adversity in healthy ways using others to buffer us in grief and seemingly unsurmountable pain. In the end, a new perspective rooted in faith and relationships have allowed me to move ahead in my life with hope and fulfillment.
